Babies shouldn't have to deal with eczema

Approximately 9.6 million U.S. children under the age of 18 have some type of eczema, and one-third have moderate to severe disease. Let us repeat that: TEN MILLION children suffer with eczema!

Sixty percent of them will develop symptoms by age 1 and another 30% by age 5.

The symtoms of eczema in babies are the same as the symptoms in adults, the worst of which is intense itchiness. The majority of adults with eczema say their itchiness is "unbearable". Just imagine how a baby feels. We often hear from distraught parents who tell us how their babies scratch themselves until they bleed. That is heartbreaking!

It's not hard to understand why these poor little ones (and their distraught parents) will likely experience disrupted sleep due to discomfort from the itch. That's not good for either of them.

Researchers and medical professionals still have no idea what really causes eczema. They do have some idea about what triggers a flare-up and the treatment centers around helping to avoid and manage these flare-ups.

If you have a baby with eczema (or have experienced it yourself) you are well aware what the go-to is for doctor's who treat it: steroid cream. Babies are more sensitive to topical steroids than adults and guess what? Steroids have side-effects. (This story just keeps getting more sad)!

It's also interesting to note that on its website the American Academy of Dermatology recommends "bleach baths". They actually suggest bleaching your baby! We're not doctors, but with all due respect, that just does not sound like a good idea.

But here's the thing: parents of babies with eczema will do almost anything to help them. Of course, they will! Their babies are suffering!

And steroid creams work. But at what cost? Figuratively and literally.

If only we had the marketing budget of the pharmaceutical companies, we could tell every parent with a little one that suffers with eczema to spend $27 and try Simple Sugars with Emu Oil before resorting to steroids and bleach baths! Our all-natural products cannot hurt them and there's a darn good chance they're going help! We have the success stories to back it up. (Read them here.)

Babies deserve a Simple Sugars happy ending to their sad eczema story!

Please share this with anyone you know that has a baby with eczema.
