Simple Sugars Vegan line to be sold at Whole Foods!

Well, fans this one has been a long time coming. It was 10 months ago that I first approached Whole Foods in Pittsburgh about the possibility of carrying Simple Sugars all-natural scrubs.  Now after many emails, several meetings and a couple of formulations I am thrilled to announce  that it’s finally a done deal.  So, starting next week, the Whole Foods Pittsburgh store will begin retailing Simple Sugars vegan line in raspberry, coconut and rose varieties. What’s even more exciting is that I will be doing in-store demos to kick off the product and help introduce the customers at Whole Foods to Simple Sugars all-natural smoothness!

I actually developed the vegan line to comply with Whole Foods requirements that all bath and body products be vegan friendly. So, this version uses organic, vegan (unprocessed) sugar instead of refined sugar but provides the same all-natural goodness, awesome real delicious scents and, of course, the same smooth result that you’d expect from a Simple Sugars scrub.

The only difference is the crystal size of the vegan sugar is a little larger, so it’s a bit more coarse than the regular formulation. It’s also a little darker in color due to the tan shade of the organic vegan sugar.

We’ll post the dates of the in-store demos on the blog and on Facebook, so those of you in Pittsburgh can come and check us out. Introducing Simple Sugars all-natural Vegan Body Scrubs!

Now there’s a formulation of Simple Sugars all-natural body and foot scrubs especially for vegans. Made from organic vegan sugar, plus our exclusive original blend of all-natural oils and organic botanicals, the vegan scrubs provide all of the smoothness you’d expect from a Simple Sugars scrub without the use of any animal products or by products.

What’s the difference between vegan sugar and refined sugar? Well, during the refining process sugar is filtered (for whitening) using a substance called bone char, which comes from cow bones. It’s a completely safe substance- just not vegan. So the vegan sugar has a larger crystal size and isn’t white. Which means the vegan scrubs have a bit of a coarser texture and have a darker color than the orginal version.

Why don’t we just switch to the organic, vegan sugar entirely? Well, there’s a good reason: our products were created to solve the problems of sensitive skin sufferers (myself included).  The refined sugar has a smaller crystal size and a lower melting point, so it’s a gentler exfoliant, which is safer for sensitive skin. This is also the reason there isn’t a vegan facial scrub. The vegan sugar is just a little too rough for your face but still a great exfoliator for your body or feet.
