So excited to add Patt Wynn as our new VP of Sales Promotion!
November 15th, 2010
As most of you know by now, I am taking this year “off” from school and am doing my junior year independently. It was a really, really big decision. I just didn’t have time to do it all. And I really want to give Simple Sugars the time and effort to see if I can push this company over the top and make it what I have envisioned. So, I have a year to reach some pretty big goals, one of which is to have Simple Sugars products nationally distributed.
Well, I happened to be in Detroit recently for a crew race (a disaster that left me sitting in a swamped quad for 2 hours and resulted in my getting hypothermia…but that’s another story…). And while there we stayed with our very good friends who moved to Michigan several years ago so that Pat could accept a big promotion as VP, Specialty Retail for the Borders Group. Pat has recently left her post at Borders and has decided to join me in my quest to grow Simple Sugars into the best company in America for women to work for! I am beyond excited. Pat is phenomenal in every way and brings lots of great experience to Simple Sugars. We are on our way to making BIG things happen for Simple Sugars so stay tuned! This is going to be fun!

Simple Sugars makes its National TV debut on MSNBC’s “Your Business”
September 21st, 2010
We recently returned from the Fall 2010 Simple Sugars press tour in NYC. Can I make a confession and tell you that I pretty much think the press tours are the best part of my job as CEO of Simple Sugars? They’re just so much fun! I mean first of all, who doesn’t love New York City? Plus this time, we were there during Fashion Week.
I had some great meetings. I got to re-visit my friends Laurel Pantin at Teen Vogue (who is gorgeous AND sweet and had on the most to-die-for heels!), Jean Godfrey-June (my idol!) and her beautiful and wonderful assistant Simone. I also had the chance to meet some new people and introduce them to Simple Sugars.
I reconnected with the always-awesome Lisa Everson at MSNBC where we filmed an in-studio spot to accompany the piece they filmed here in Pittsburgh back in August. (See link below and yes – it was in the NBC building a.k.a 30 Rock! AND I GOT “HAIR AND MAKE-UP!!) Everyone at MSNBC was so nice. Dawn, Gloria and Maura were especially great. I also got to meet and hang with the spectacular Snyder sisters- Danielle and Jodie who are the geniuses behind Dannijo Jewelry. Their jewelry is incredible and so are they.

And because we can’t go to NYC and not have some non-business fun – we saw Fela! and Chicago on Broadway. (Loved both btw), did a little shopping, had the best Fashion Night Out EVER in the meat packing district and even got up early to meet Sam Champion at Good Morning America. Oh and yes, I did get me some Donut Plant specialties. Can you say “MMMMMMMMMMM”??
I came home exhausted but with so many great memories. I can’t wait to go back! Plus, we only had to ride the subway (which I hate!) once

And while we’re talkin’ summer, shall we discuss cellulite??
July 30th, 2010
No one likes it, but almost everyone has some somewhere. It’s just one of the curses of womanhood. And besides flips and sandals, what else will you be wearing when it heats up? We’re guessing, a bathing suit, probably some short shorts and cute little summer dresses. While there’s no proven cure for cellulite, there are some things that have been proven to at least reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily.
According to Dr. Ava Shamban, an assistant professor of dermatology at UCLA, an effective anti-cellulite treatment should contain caffeine, antioxidants and anti-inflammatories ( namely coffeeberry) which tighten blood vessels and stimulate blood flow. And Cellulitetalk.org says, “ Research has also shown that caffeine helps reduce cellulite by actually reducing the size and thickness of the fat cell itself. By changing the size of the internal fat deposits, your skin will appear smoother and flatter.”
So, if you want to tighten up a little before stepping out in your short shorts – get yourself some Simple Sugars all-natural coffee scrub with coffeeberry extract. It’s loaded with caffeine and antioxidants, the keys to reducing the appearance of cellulite, and the massaging action of applying it will boost blood flow even more! PLUS – the intoxicating coffee scent will rev you up, so you’ll have plenty of energy for summer fun AND you’ll be smoother than smooth! It’s almost too much, isn’t it?! What are you waiting for?!?! Get some!

Simple Sugars’ MSNBC shoot.
July 5th, 2010
Last Thursday Lisa Everson, who produces “Your Business” for MSNBC, and film crew came to my house to film me for a story they are doing on young entrepreneurs. Wow! What an exciting and crazy day. Lisa, Jared (camera man) and Thom (sound guy) arrived at 9am and the filming went on until 6pm. It was very cool and I have to admit, very exhausting too!
The day started at my house, aka Simple Sugars HQ. They interviewed me and my mom, and then filmed me making some scrubs and packing up some orders and various other things. Then we went to my rowing club, Steel City Rowing, where they even shot footage of me rowing my single at crew practice! We finished up the shoot on location at Whole Foods. It was an all around awesome day and I can’t wait until the piece airs, which should be sometime in August. Lisa, Jared and Thom were so cool to hang with too, they totally made the whole day fun and not stressful at all.
Oh and for those of you that are wondering how the heck MSNBC found out about me and Simple Sugars in the first place? Well, a couple of years ago, my mom and I attended a women’s business conference put on by Entrepreneur Magazine in Miami and I met Lisa there. We stayed in touch and then she just emailed me saying that the timing was finally right for her to do a story on me and could she come to Pittsburgh to shoot it! Of course, I said, “YES!”
So, you never know when something is going to bounce your way – it pays to make contacts and keep in touch with them
Stay Smooth~

Well, as some of you may already know I recently celebrated my 16th birthday, and got my learner’s permit that very day! So now I have my very own Simple Sugars Super Smooth ride!! It’s awesome and it is complete with pink zebra print seat covers and pink fuzzy dice. In a word: SWEET! And very smooth too
If you see me cruisin’ by make sure you say “hi” – but don’t honk your horn, I’m new at this driving stuff and any distraction could be dangerous
